And So She Rote…

No, I did not mean to say Wrote, but in fact Rote. So what is this? Well, it’s learning a new skill which is hallmarked by repetition or memorization. This style of learning has been around for ages, though I could not come up with an exact date of the creation of Rote, and so I will just say it’s not a new form of learning. This is the same method of learning that teaches children the alphabet. Not to sound immature, but I did learn the alphabet, and so I know this exercise has worked at least one time in my life!

The reasoning behind doing Rote exercises is to have something drilled into your mind, even if you don’t yet understand its significance. The importance will come later, or at least that is the thinking behind this practice.

It’s too soon for me to tell how effective this practice is, but I will let you know how it goes and if I can see a connection.

Until next time,

  1. Hi Kari-
I definitely believe in the rote process-after all, who hasn’t used it in classes like algebra and chemistry. Sometimes rote is the only way to learn a thing….and I know it’s worked for me in the past. I still use it today for things like remembering phone numbers….
